Some people argue that social networking sites have more positive impacts than negative impacts. I disagree with this view because I believe that there are countless negative influences on social networking services.
It is true that social networking sites allow us to have more opportunities and experiences in business or relationships by connecting different countries and environments. However, the hidden side of social networking services is much more detrimental to us than we thought. First, most adolescents normally have their own smartphones these days so they can easily access social networking sites such as Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube. They can be apt to put off their homework or lecture until tomorrow constantly by looking at those applications. Moreover, they can be addicted to checking and watching them, and therefore they can be prone to stay up really late or even sit up all night. As a result, there will be a problem with their both physical and mental growth.
Second, it is negative for adults to do social networking services as well as children. They will be likely to have less time to think about themselves to pay attention to their posts, and their self-esteem can be lower and a sense of depression can be higher at the same time by caring about other people’s eyes. At the same time, I believe that there is a lot of false information too much. It can be switched over many different rumors or brings about bigger exaggeration. In South Korea, many celebrities are suffering from too much attention from the public.
In conclusion, while social networking services have various advantages for us, I believe that their negative consequences are bigger than the positive effects and we should maintain the balance in using them.
