It is a common belief that it is beneficial for people to take driverless vehicles only as passengers in the future. However, there is a more persuasive argument that there are a lot of concerns about driverless car accidents. On the one hand, driverless cars will enable people who used to drive a vehicle to spend their travel time doing something more valuable than just grabbing a handle. Furthermore, these vehicles can provide people who are not able to obtain a driver's license with an opportunity to own and utilize the car. In an interview with a person who attended a driverless car simulation in the US, he stated that cars without drivers made it possible for a passenger, previously the driver, to spend his travel time more efficiently. He had to hold his handle for the whole driving time before, however, in the driverless car, he can now do something else, such as text message or prepare for his upcoming meeting. His statements show that driverless cars will enable people to manage their time more freely. Nevertheless, since driverless vehicles are controlled by artificial intelligence, numerous people are concerned about their malfunction. Also, if an accident occurs due to the AI's malfunctioning, there are no specific regulations about who is responsible for the accident. For instance, the responsibility for driverless car crashes is currently being debated in our society. Some people argue that the car company has to take full responsibility for the accident, while others claim that the car owners are responsible for the crash. This debate indicates that a world filled with driverless cars is yet to come and that there are still a lot of problems dealing with the car's malfunction or how to implement a distinct policy for judging the responsibility for driverless car accidents. To sum up, while there are advantages to owning driverless cars that help people to use an automobile regardless of the existence of a driver's license and to spend their travel time more effectively, it is apparent that the disadvantages to using driverless vehicles outweigh the benefits. |
