There is an ongoing debate regarding teenagers’
social work. Some people say that young people should contribute themselves
to the community as they are the future core members of society. However, it
could be argued that coercing the work without payment may occur demerits to
the youngsters’ upcoming career. Personally, I would like to opine that free
social works must not be encouraged to pupils. In this essay, the polar opposite
viewpoints will be discussed alongside with the reason of my belief. On the one hand, many people concur that young
people are able to learn how to collaborate with other people through the work
experience apart from their academic accomplishments. As they can make acquaintances
and good relationships with other peers who show the similar interest in certain
careers, it could be the valuable opportunity for senior students. Thus, young
people can share their experience each other as well as test their own aptitude
before getting into professional industries. In addition, career experiences may
predominate their future career position compared to other candidates who
have never worked before. Once students become applicants of the firms, relevant
experiences in the industry will be the powerful ammunition for their work
interviews. On the other hand, I strongly believe that rendering
career experiences in the midst of academic course may convey the deleterious
impact on a pupils’ school life. I do not think that senior students must get
involved in social work without the compensation. One reason is that the duress
of those work experiences can be considered as the exploitation of labors. Since
adolescents are not able to possess the enough legal rights compared to that
of adults, for instance, making bank account, signing on the deed agreement form
and so forth. The other reason is that they might cannot focus on their academic
achievement owing to the work. Those unpaid works may give negative effects
on students’ transcript and scholarship due to the shortage of time
investment for school curriculums. In condensation, even though adolescents are
able to learn teamwork and knowledge of the relevant profession, I am firmly
convinced that the drawbacks of the volunteer job such as the lack of legal
boundaries for youngsters or the scarcity of concentration of a school life far
outweigh merits of the unpaid work. |
