Many museums and
historical sites are mainly visited by tourists but not local people.
What are the
reasons? What can be done to attract more local people to visit these
places?
It is somewhat true that museums and historical
places are becoming the ones in which only tourists seek. I believe that there
are a couple of reasons and possible suggestions to solve them.
There are two mains reasons why locals do not feel
like going to museums and historical sites in their city. Firstly, the majority
of locals might have already been there when they are young with their family.
While it seems to first visitors that museums and historical places are
exciting, local people are already used to the places and might lose interest
in going to the same place many times. Secondly, some museums and historical
places are mainly focused to tourist to make profit. Famous places can make
money by selling souvenir and expensive admission fee to tourists, which can
lead residents not want to pay for it twice and eventually end up not going.
However, I believe that there are some measures for
this problem. First of all, local people can be interested in going to their
local museums and historical sites if there is new information updated. For
example, if there are new ways to introduce old historical events, pictures,
and facts with the 3D technology, they might be willing to go there with their
family even though they have already visited. Second, it would be a great idea
to offer free coupons or discounted price to locals. With reasonable price, local
people will be able to find a reason to go the place where they already know at
the same time, feel that these places are not only for tourists.
In conclusion, while
there are some certain reasons why local museums and historical sites are more
appealing to tourists, some possible measures can help to slow this down.
