Some claim that advertisement is the main key to make people purchase things while others believe that it is too common to attract consumers anymore. In my view, I think that advertising is still a powerful method to get people’s attention.
One of the main reasons why some people argue that advertising is not attractive anymore is that there are too many advertisements shown around us. More and more ads are coming out regardless of media, type of items, time and location but consumers are increasingly getting used to them, leading to them not really focusing on what is in the advertisements. For example, on TV, Youtube or even in Cinema, countless ads are trying to make people interested in items that most viewers have no interest in. The more advertisements we are exposed to, the more people there are to ignore them because of tiredness.
On the other hand, it is true that in modern society, people tend to change things that they own even though the items are fairly new. The lifespan of items such as mobile phones, cars and appliances are much longer than the actual usage period. This can mean that advertising is persuading us well, fooling consumers. Furthermore, for children, they are easily persuaded by advertisements of fast food or toys. For example, Burger King or Macdonald’s toy ads targeting teenagers are seen in a bus station or TV so young people tend to go to the restaurants to check the toys. Since many who buy unnecessary things can be easily seen due to well-made advertising, almost all companies spend a great amount of money on advertisements.
In conclusion, while too many ads may make people tired of themselves, I think that advertising can still affect people regardless of age and is still a strong marketing tool.
