There has been great debate around the quality of life of living in
rural compared to urban areas. The difference isn’t just measured by the
impression of how rural and urban cities look like, but there are also substantial
differences within both. Some people insist that children living in urban
environments have more benefits, such as greater convenience and opportunities.
However, others insist that growing up in rural environments are more
beneficial to them. In this discussion, I will discuss the benefits of living
in rural cities for children, such as education and health.
A good reason to reside in rural area is that it gives better
quality of education. Within regional schools, the classroom population is less
compared to classrooms in metropolitan schools. There are also fewer classes in
the school, which means students have access to all the available services
provided. As a result, there is more opportunities to discuss and have feedback
from all the teachers in school. Therefore, they tend to be well-rounded and they
can improve their own skills.
As mentioned previously, there are health benefits for children who
live in rural regions. Given the lower population density in rural cities,
there less man-made external factors that can impact one’s health. For
instance, there are less traffic, resulting in less air pollution. Studies have
also shown that the overall life expectancy is higher in rural cities than
urban cities. Therefore, living in rural areas can positively impact the
child’s health, both mentally and psychologically. When it comes to
competition, living in metropolitan areas has shown to result in severe stress
and peer pressure, both in children and adults. People who live in rural cities
are more likely to feel satisfied with their overall quality of life. Research
in the US showed that social skills are far outweighed and
the level of happiness is greater than children who live in the city.
Overall, there are substantial differences between living in rural
and metropolitan areas. However, as discussed above, rural areas can play a
vital role in both education and health for children. Therefore, it can be
beneficial for children to grow up in rural areas than in metropolitan areas.
