Your Answer ▼ Some people argue that the young people’s influential fashion culture has a positive effect on them, providing common culture to share with. However, there is a more persuasive argument that it has more side effects compared to the positive ones, due to the uniformity of characteristics and an exclusive pressure arising from such trend.
First of all, young people in our modern day are overly influenced by the current fashion trend. Since they are sensitive about specific popular culture, they would more likely to follow such trend over their own way to express their characteristics. This will result in the the standardized fashion trend that can be faded and switched very quickly, and young people will be busy following such trend and will have fewer chance to establish their own special styles. According to a recent study, compared to the past which had fewer access to the mass media which can offer fashion trends, people tend to have the fewer variety of clothings and hairstyles. That is, since they are affected by the current influential fashion trends by the mass media, young people are getting more restrictive and standardized about their look.
Moreover, such fashion trend that young people admire has an exclusive and closed tendency, this can be a threatening pressure to young people who are not able to follow it. As the popularity of such exclusive fashion trend rises among young people, a fear of missing out arising from such trend is becoming the major social issue in the youth culture. According to a recent survey, 75% of young people answered that they felt strong pressure about following current fashion styles and worried that their own fashion would look to be old-fashioned. As such, the developing influence of categorized and standardized fashion trends will convince young people to feel other minor fashion styles outdated and weird, isolating people who don’t follow the trends. Young people can be forced to spend large sum of money on popular clothings due to the pressure, and some youngsters who don’t have means to do that would feel disconnected with others.
To sum up, although the advancement of influential fashion trends in the youth culture can provide young people with common feelings about the culture, it is more persuasive that such trends can be hazardous to young people’s characteristics and mindset. Because they are susceptible to such exclusive and popular fashion trends, young people will have fewer range of fashion styles and can feel destructive pressure to follow the popular trend. |
