| The bar graph gives information concerning the total number of hours per month between 1980 and 2015 that people in the USA used modern technologies related to television, computer, radio, and smartphone.
Overall, it is clear that, while an average of hours of television, computer, and smartphone per month showed an upward trend over the period, that of radio experienced decreased rapidly except a particular period.
One of the first things to note is that radio use was predominant over other devices between 1980 and 1990, increasing to around 370 hours. And then, this figure continued to fall dramatically to the end of the period, hitting its lowest point of just under 100 hours. Meanwhile, the hours of other devices remained stable at under 100 hours by 1995. However, these figures then grew to the last of the period. Particularly, smartphone use experienced the most dramatic increase, reaching its highest point of 350 hours, which was higher than television and radio use combined by around 100 hours. Likewise, computer use also grew sharply from 150 hours in 2000 to around 370 hours in 2015. It is noteworthy that the use time of television experienced the most stable growth by 2010, but this figure declined slightly to under 200 hours in 2015. |
