It is a common belief that the personal
information of violent criminals should be kept as a secret to the public.
However, there is a more persuasive argument that it should be open to the
populace for safety.
On the one hand, it seems fair and generous
giving second chance for violent criminals to have a new, better life. However,
If people’s criminal data is revealed to the public, they might have extremely
hard time to get a job or get along with neighbors who know their past, even if
they already absoluted the guilt and sincerely want to live diligently. It is
said that people who committed a crime cannot get a proper job and live in subsistence,
which can lead them to commit another crime, such as robbery, for living.
Nevertheless, I firmly believe that the
personal information of violent criminals must be given to the public,
especially people who are living near them. There is a reliable study on
violent criminals conducted by Korea government. In the study, the violent
criminals have inclination to commit following crimes five times as higher than
the innocent. Moreover, experts commonly insist that violent traits are very
difficult to be fixed. When it comes to a safety problem, people have to all
things they can do for preventing crimes, especially in terms of contemporary
society which is considered the most dangerous than ever.
To sum up, while it is apparent that
violent criminals would receive second chance by keeping their personal
criminal information privately, it is undeniable that maintaining our society’s
safety is more important.
