In many countries, the quality of life in large cities is becoming worse. What are the causes for this problem? What measures do you think should be taken to tackle this problem?
It is often said that life in cities becoming more stressful and the quality has gone down, compared to the past, mainly because of the competitive society. While this is a serious problem, it can be solved by the promotion of a sense of community.
The main reason of low-quality life in a big city is that competition-centred society. Life in the city is extremely busy and complicated compared to the rural area. Since most of the cities contain large-scale companies and administrative institutes, it has many job opportunities. Even though it has many places to work, people have to try their best to survive in their position. In other words, the position is likely to replaced easily. By hiring a more competent person, the company can earn more profit, which is an essential thing in a competitive society. To survive in this environment, people tend to focus mainly on work, which leads to poor work-life balance.
However, there is a solution to alleviate this problem. The prior things to do is lessening the competitive mood and promoting the sense of community. To make it possible, the action of the government is crucial. The government can invest the programs or campaigns that can make people in the community together. Especially, if the campaign last for long-term, citizens might learn a sense of community naturally.
To sum up, it is clear that our society become harsh to live due to the competitive environment. Nevertheless, the problem can be resolved by the government’s effort, such as investing and conducting events, to enhance the sense of community.
