Some people think that only staff who worked in a company for a long time should be promoted to higher positions. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
In modern society, it has been a heated discussion whether employees who work for a long time in the same company should be promoted in higher positions or not. It has many persuasive reasons to support both views but I believe that promoting must be depending on one’s ability.
First of all, if the company put the person at the higher position as working for a long time, it may reduce to possibility of going forward of the company. Even they know every circumstances of the company, those who work for the long time tend to maintain current situations, not to innovate. This is because the companies should change and develop to make a profit with challenges, but if people who devoted for a long time are at the higher positions, they are used to avoid the innovation and keeping the present businesses.
Secondly, selecting managers should not depend on the length of the working not to lose their passions. Even though they work for a long time, their abilities to run the companies cannot be better than those who have various experiences from other companies. In some enterprises, it is one of the old traditions that taking higher positions if they work for few years even they do not have any achievement of the business. However, these traditions can make employees lose enthusiasm of working because they will go higher regardless of the outcome of their tasks.
To sum up, choosing managers in the companies should not depend on the period of working for. It can lead to settle for same positions of the companies due to their lack of enthusiasm, and they are tend to stay in a same positions so that I believe that the promoting should be depend on various standards such as the abilities and achievement of them.
