Your Answer ▼It is a common belief that environmental issues cannot be encountered by individuals but there is a more persuasive argument that individual actions are one of the most important part in solving those problems. This is because small actions added together create a big change and it can also preserve natural resources.
On the one hand, it is unable for individuals to solve environmental problems because those problems require a lot of effort and resources to be solved. For instance, problems such as littering of industrial waste in the ocean can only be solved by the government or environmental organisations as individuals do not have enough power to stop the industries that litter. Furthermore, some issues have gone so far that individuals cannot do something about them like problems about rubbish dumps.
Nevertheless, every individual must participate in saving the environment because if everyone does changes will happen in a more faster rate. For example, a ship transporting great amount of oil shipwrecked and those oil was spread onto the ocean surface which destroyed the ocean ecosystem. However, the ocean environment was recovered in only 10 years through the effort of thousands of volunteers. Moreover, natural resources such as trees and oil can be preserved. If every individual practise environmental activities like the 3 R's in their everyday lives, the amount of goods bought will decrease and the amount of goods produced will also decrease. This can be briefly illustrated by the recent research of a scientist which says that 50% of a forest was recovered when people living near it used less amount of paper than before.
In conclusion, while it is apparent that every individuals have to take actions in protecting the environment, it is undeniable that there are problems that require much greater actions.
