In my country, south korea, it is really true that people are obsessed to own their home rather than renting one, even though they are not affordable to do so. I think there are two reasons for this phenomenon especially in case of my country. First, there are specific age-related criteria in Korean society. This makes people agitated if they do not follow them. For instance, 30's in Korea are asked to buy their own home and car, and it becomes the criteria of success. I think this makes people struggle to earn money and buy their own place to live. Second, in my personal opinion, Koreans do not want to be special. They want to live a normal life, just like others do. This may be related to my first reason above. Because every other people around them are getting their home, they don't think of other choices they can make, but also try to get their home like others. This is really prevalent in Korea. For me, the nearest person is the perfect example of this phenomenon. My sister is planned to get married this October. But she and her fiance already bought their home prior to wedding. She is now stressed out because of her loan and debt she got to buy the apartment. My sister wanted to get bachelor's degree but she gave up because her friends bought houses. I think this is negative phenomenon because this makes people feel like they are in a rush although they do not have any reason to be. As a consequence, they lose opportunities to enjoy their own life. They, instead, just follow other's life. I wish people in Korea become free from their obsession to buy a home. |
