The given chart illustrates the percentage of people who can write and understand their own language in three continents from 1930 to 2000. Overall, the upward trend can be seen in all of them. In addition, North America had the largest portion whereas Africa had the lowest percentage among them. In 1930, the gap between North America and Asia was almost 30 percent which is the biggest difference during the whole period until 2000. The rate of Asia had been surged for 70 years, and, in 2000, Asia reached the highest percentage of 80 which was ranked on the first place. However, more than half of African cannot read or write even in 2000. Although it was twice as much as the figure in 1930, the rate was slowly increased compared to Asia’s. On the other hand, more than 65% of North American had literacy skills even in 1930. The rates remained relatively stable at 80% after 1960. In conclusion, in Africa, it is necessary to find ways to enhance their literacy level. Moreover, it is noteworthy that the unbelievable grow was seen in Asia. |
