In recent years, the importance of animal rights has risen. In this regard, this has caused a key issue on the effect that zoo has on animals and whether it is good to have animals in the zoo. While some say it is cruel for the animals to be kept in the zoo, however, I believe zoos have more benefits than drawbacks to animals and humans.
The main reason that people wants to ban zoo is that a zoo is a place built to entertain humans to watch diverse creatures in one location. In order to do so, animals were forced away from their original habitat and locked in an undersized area inside the zoo. Animals have the right to live in the environment they are born and raised, not be forced into a limited space for human’s enjoyment.
Others, on the other hand, believe that zoos are not only for entertainment but also have beneficial influences on society. The first reason is that zoo is educational. It is the only way that the kids can see wild animals other than pets in reality. It is a good educational way to learn about animals and this can lead to acknowledgement of the importance of the environment.
The second beneficial reason is that zoo provides a safe environment for wild animals. Zoos bring animals that are on the verge of extinction or injured and provide protection. In New Zealand, many zoos have a special centre for wild animals, such as penguins, that are injured in the wild. After treatment is over send them back into the wild. Also, for animals that may become extinct due to climate change or environmental causes, zoos play a significant environment to protect and be a new home for them.
For the above reasons, I believe there are more benefits of having zoos by contributing to the society and environment in various aspects.
