Some people suggest that we
need to increase fuel prices in order to solve environmental problems. I agree
with this idea to some extent, but I think we need to put more efforts rather
on developing renewable energy in the long term.
It is true that increased
fuel prices will contribute to decreasing the use of fossil fuels to some
degree. Factories will try hard to avoid fossil fuels or have no choice but to
increase the price of their products. If there is no proper alternative to
fossil fuels, however, it would be customers who will eventually suffer from
the increased price of fossil fuels. In other words, this will not necessarily
lead to the better environment.
From my perspective, it is essential to
develop a plenty of renewable energy, so both the public and private sectors
need to work together to make more research on this area and build necessary
infrastructure. For example, solar, wind, or hydroelectric energy are
considered as major alternative energy for fossil fuels these days, but there
might be some more unknown energy that can effectively replace fossil fuels. In
addition, even such well known renewable energy is available, only when necessary
infrastructure is already established. For instance, some facilities such as
solar panels, wind turbines, and hydroelectric dams should be preceded for power plants to harness solar, wind, or hydroelectric energy. Thus,
governments and companies around the world need to focus on encouraging
alternative energy.
In conclusion, countries around the world need
to seek ways to increase renewable energy rather than just rely on increasing
fuel prices. In this way, they can save the environment more effectively. |
