Your Answer ▼ Task1)
The charts below show the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and amount of time spent doing housework in households in one country between 1920 and 2019. The first graph shows the percentage of households with electrical appliances such as washing machine, refrigerator, and vacuum cleaner. The use of all three appliances ultimately increased compared to the past; the use of refrigerator and vacuum cleaner gradually increased until 2000 unlike the washing machine which showed a slight decrease between 1960 to 1980. From 1920 to 1960, the use of refrigerator increased enormously that showed an increase of 90 percentage from zero for 40 years. However, there's no more change since 2000 in terms of the use of refrigerator and vacuum cleaner.
When it comes to the second graph that represents the number of hours of housework per week, the total hours of housework are gradually decreasing. Especially, there's a big decrease in the first 40 years. The graph shows that the gap is 30 hours from 1920 to 1960. After 1960, the slight decrease consistently occurred, but the number of hours of housework reduced only 10 hours until 2019.
Task2)
In some countries, more and more people are becoming interested in finding out about the history of the house or building they live in. I believe that there's two reasons. First, being in the same spot to have a stability is human's instinct. When we look back on human's long history, we can realize that the majority of people used to build their own house and make a village with neighbors which shows that they tend to settle in some place giving them a sort of stability. Therefore, finding out a solid and safe place to live comes from the human's instinct, and that makes people try to look for the history of the house because they want to make sure that their houses are safe enough to live for a long time.
As a second reason, in the same vein, because the house is very meaningful for people, they also want to know more about their building's history; it might be a kind of affection towards their nests. Once people seek a place to live, it may not be a temporary living. Thus, they are interested in lots of information about their house including the history and origin before they determine the house they will live because it's not just a simple purchase like buying a fruit at the mart.
To fulfill their desires, people are willing to know about the history of the house, and start to research this as much as they can. I guess that there's various ways to search about them, but based on my experience, I would say one traditional way that my mother did before. She used to go to the fortuneteller who has been living in this place for tons of years to hear some stories about the origin of this land and the previous people who lived in. She didn't trust fully what fortuneteller said, but she considered somewhat before she signed the contract for the house where our family are going to live. To add some, even though I don't know the detailed way, I think that there's some other people who research through internet thoroughly to know the history as well.
To sum up, it is a very natural phenomenon being interested in finding out about the history of the places they live, because the house is the symbol of stability, and the place that they will spend most of their time with families. Due to the meaning of the house for people, the way to research about the history of the house is one of the interests among people.
