There are some people who believe that
universities should hire famous
professors rather than improve
facilities such as libraries and computer labs. However, I personally disagree
with the above statement for the two subsequent reasons. First, improved
facilities help students to upgrade their performance. Second, there is more
chance for students to develop knowledge by improving facilities.
First, improving facilities lets students get
better performance. This is because improved facilities can raise students'
interest in subjects and thus increases their concentration. According to the
recent study done by Prof. Kim of Seoul University, more than 80% of the
respondents said that they obtained better grades after the university they study at improved its libraries and computer
labs. Also, they added that the improved facilities made them concentrate well.
This clearly shows that students can get better grades by improving facilities.
On top of that, students can further develop
knowledge by improving facilities. In other words, improved libraries or computer
labs can solve students’ curiosity since they can read a lot of papers and search
information through the internet. Let me bring up my personal experience. When
I was a freshman, I was full of questions about chemistry, but there were only one small library and computer
lab in my university. Since the books and papers in the library were too little
and the computer was too slow to satisfy my curiosity, I could not concentrate
on the next concepts. However, after a few years, the facilities were improved
so I could solve my questions much more easily and broaden my knowledge about chemistry. If it hadn’t been for
the improved facilities, I could have struggled with unsolved questions and not
broadened my knowledge.
In conclusion, improving facilities allows students to get better performance and deeper knowledge. In this regard, I
firmly believe that it is most important for universities to improve facilities
than to hire famous professors. |
