In modern societies, most people possess own television and often watch it. Correspondingly, it is highly debatable whether it takes more time to communicate with each other than in the past. In general, the consensus view seems to be that the introduction of television does not affect our communication. In my opinion, however, I firmly believe that the popularity of television destroys our communication between human beings for the following two subsequent reasons.
First and foremost, the advent of television is closely related to the frequency of communication in terms of conversation of an individual’s family. To be specific, many people nowadays watch a variety of programs on Television while they have dinner or eat something, which can reduce the family relationship. For instance, there is a poll conducted by the Johns Hopkins University with 500 their students majoring in Social Philosophy departments. The purpose of the survey is to understand the negative impact of Television. The majority of them responded that if people want to strengthen their family relationship, they have to eliminate television because it takes their most time to talk to each other. An overwhelming 93 percent argued that in the past, by chatting with family members in dinner, people tend to have a strong relationship in the warm atmosphere. This demonstrates that television can make barriers between their family members, causing them to be distracted by the television.
In addition, today’s people spend their time watching television and visual medium such as YouTube in their free time, which means that they have less time to communicate with each other. On the other hand, since people in the past do not possess such a device, they had more time to communicate and talk with each other. After people in the past work hard, by meeting their friends at home or cafe and communicating with each other, they could release their stress and forget about their worries. Obviously, it is legitimate to say that television is an impediment in communicating with others. For example, when I was a high school student, I prepared my exam and studied hard so that I was distressed by them. When I go to my home, my parents always listened to concerns about school-life and it helped me release my burden. Without television, whenever I want I could confer with my parents in a silent atmosphere.
In conclusion, taking television distracting the communication and expending our precious time into consideration, I strongly believe that because of television modern people communicate with each other less than in the past. Never should we forget that this issue may have a huge impact on our lives.
