▶ Your Answer :
Undoubtedly,
family plays a significant role in people’s daily lives in many of the places
where they work or play. Some people think that today the extended family is
less important than it was in the past, while others do not. Both sides may
have their own reasons to support their views. If I were asked to choose one, I
would say that the value of the extended family today is less important than it
was in the past. There are several reasons as follows.
To begin with, today’s
people do not have enough time being with their extended family for getting
achievement for themselves. As modern society is becoming specialized and
competitive, today’s job market requires job candidates with such professionalism.
Having professionalism requires them to spend most of their time in company or
school by developing their expertise to achieve success. Spending most of their
time to succeed is likely to discourage people keep in touch with their
extended family. For example, when I was in a high school, I had visited my
grandparent every weekend and helped them for farming, so I was able to
strengthen emotional bond and feelings of security. However, after going to a
university, I realized that my punctuality and diligence for studying can help
me raise my academic grades, while being with grandparents could negatively
affect my grades. I started to spend my whole time studying all academic
subjects for my majors by being more diligent, passionate, and
self-disciplined. Although I made constant effort, it was not easy because
everyone was working as hard as I was. I stayed in my home by focusing on my
major subjects without visiting my grandparent. Eventually, I was able to get a
job as an education specialist in Japan-Cambodia International Cooperation Agency
two years ago by graduating at the top of class. Without giving up time being
with grandparents, I would have fallen behind.
All things
considered, I strongly believe that today the importance of the extended family
is less important than that of in the past for those reasons I have mentioned
above. All in all, this trend will continue and pass down to the next
generation.
