Throughout the
history, several factors have been influencing the society, in the aspects of
culture, food and means of transportation. Technological developments made
those which weren’t possible in the past become available. For example, in the
ancient time, the fastest transportation system was riding horse, but now we
can go to another continent in just a day by airplanes. Also, instead of
walking hundreds of kilometers, we can use cars and move to another city far
away in less than couple of hours. So, these are both great inventions. But,
comparing these two transportations, I think airplanes gave greater impact on
society than cars for two reasons.
First, we need
to think about the impact on communications between societies. People
communicated with those far away through horses and boats, but this was very
limited in coverage compared to what people are doing nowadays. They fly to
another country overseas and do economic activities and talk about urgent
issues in politics. Of course, cars contributed in broadening the coverage of
activities, but it didn’t give that much impact when compared to what airplanes
did. Airplanes made a modification in the concept of communication by
decreasing the amount of time people use to go across the ocean.
Second,
airplanes gave great change in those societies where it is hard to transport by
cars. In places where there are so many mountains and lakes and relatively
small population is living, it is inefficient to make roads considering the
small demands of it. In these places airplanes are more appropriate than cars. This
is because airplanes can be used depending on the demand. It is more effective
in the use of time too.
In conclusion, I
think that airplanes have made greater influence on society than cars. This is
because airplanes made people go to another country with smaller amount of time
and it’s more effective in places where there are many obstacles. |
