In the lecture, the lecturer claims that
Chaevalier’s memoir is rather accurate, which contradicts the the assertion
made in the reading passage. The lecturer lists three evidences to convert the
arguments of reading passage.
First of all, the lecturer explains about
the wealth of Chaevalier. She says that Chaevalier borrowed money from a
merchant because he had to make huge money to revive for the parties and gambles,
not because he was poor. This casts doubt on the reading passage’s statement
that he would not really been rich. memoir에 대한 입장대립이므로 memoir에 써진 내용이 옳다, 그르다 하는 식으로 입장이 함께 드러나주는 게 좋아요.
The next point the lecturer makes is that Chaevalier
was a person who regularly noted the conversation each day. Therefore, she says that
the memoir is believable and exact. It controverts the idea of the reading passage
that the memoir cannot accurately capture the conversation between Chaelvalier
and Voltaire.
Lastly, the lecturer says that none of the
jailers was powerful. Therefore, it would be difficult for them to receive
bribe. Moreover, the lecturer suggests that the ceiling of the prison where
Chaevalier stayed was repaired after he escaped. These are contradictory to the
reading passage’s statement that jailers were given bribe and helped Chaevalier to
escape.

Integrated Writing Rubrics Score 3.5/5 A response at this level is generally good in selecting the important information from the lecture and in coherently and accurately presenting this information in relation to the relevant information in the reading, but it may have minor omission, inaccuracy, vagueness, or imprecision of some content from the lecture or in connection to points made in the reading. A response is also scored at this level if it has more frequent or noticeable minor language errors, as long as such usage and grammatical structures do not result in anything more than an occasional lapse of clarity or in the connection of ideas.
