▶ Your Answer : Opinions might be divided over whether students should take a year off before going to college. People may take diverse positions on this controversial issue by the age or occupation. I agree with this idea for the following two reasons: first, it can be useful for making a good relationship afterward and second, students can relieve stress through taking a year off to travel.
To begin with, taking a year off to go on a trip would be conducive to making many friends on campus. What it means is that it can lead to developing social skills. Therefore, students can make friends easily to hang out with by sharing their trip experiences. I will bring up my personal experience as an example. When I was in high school, after graduating, I went to the USA to travel and I could see as many things as possible. Thus, I had a lot of episode. The experience not only help to socialize with others on campus but also build a strong character. I felt realized that it is easy to talk to others and hang out with many friends after entering a college. If I had not gone to the trip, I could not have many friends now. The same applies to many people like me.
On top of that, the experience can relieve stress for students. Generally, many high school students be stressed out because of uninviting tasks. Therefore, they need to relieve stress though taking some time off. In other words, students can forget about their stress and feel refreshed by going to a trip. Furthermore, they can be motivated to study hard after entering a college. There are many articles which reaffirm my viewpoint. A few weeks ago, I read an op-ed piece from Korea Herald that is related to the topic. It described the result of a survey, which was conducted by Seoul National social science researcher with more than 500 people as respondents. The purpose of the survey was to understand the consensus view that taking a trip would be reasonable for students to relieve stress. Of 500-people surveyed, over 80 percent answered that they ended up having a positive mind and the trip instigated them to exert their best after graduating high school. This clearly proves that going a trip will relieve stress. This is taken for granted at that situation.
In conclusion, going a trip before entering college would not only be helpful for making a good relationship with college students but also contribute to reducing stress. In this regard, I strongly believe that students should take a year off to travel before going to a college.
