Regardless of
our age, we sometimes have to make an important decision. For young people, it
might be hard to make a crucial decision that is going to influence their life
for many years. To make sure they are making a right decision, they sometimes
ask (for) their parents’ advice. However, I don’t think young people nowadays
seek for their parents’ advice anymore. There are several reasons as follows.
To begin with, young
people don’t rely on their parents like before because parents educate their
child to be grown up as an independent and responsible person. For parents, it
would be disappointing if their child depends on their parents’ ability even after
they become an adult. As parents are not available to provide aids to their
child for the rest of the life, they refuse to let their children indulge with
too much pleasure. Also giving constant advice to their children brings
negative effect to the children’s life. Oxford university found a huge
difference between two groups of adults. One group was consisted of young adult
who receive regular advice from their parents. The other group was made up of
young people who solves their problem on their own. The researchers found out
that the latter group showed better ability to manage their life
professionally. In addition, the latter group showed a longer attention span, a
stronger passion in their tasks, and a better ability to delay gratification.
On the other hand, the first group tended to get distracted easily,
procrastinate and act on impulse. This implies that one can’t achieve success
without challenging their problem on their own. Parents are well aware of the
fact that without challenge, one can’t achieve anything.
I believe young
people do not rely on their parents’ advice because they were taught not to do
so. Perhaps parents already knew that indulging would spoil a child. All in
all, the importance of challenging and self-discipline should not be overlooked.
