Opinion might be divided whether parents
should give their children money for each high grade they get in school or not.
People of various ages and from different walks of life may take diverse
positions on this controversial issue. Some believe that parents should provide
them with each extent of money as proportional to their academic achievement. However,
I personally disagree with the statement that parents have to give some money
to them depending on their academic performance.
To begin with, they should receive money
regardless of their academic performance because they have been already too
stressed out. Many children suffer from the excessive homework and assignments.
If they are compelled to do their study, they could even receive much more stress.
When I was a middle school student, my parents were enthusiastic about my
education. Thus, they told me that if I achieved a lot for the next mid-term
exams, my allowance would increase a lot. On the other hand, if my grade
decreased or didn't change at all, my allowance would be reduced. At that time,
I really wanted to buy Nintendo, so I studied a lot. However, Things didn't
last long. The fact that I should get a great score in
the exams made me suffer from sleep deprivation, fatigue, and stress. Moreover,
I couldn't get a sleep only for two to three hours due to the excessive amount
of materials to study. Finally, my physical and mental condition were exaggerated
greatly and I couldn't get great score in the tests. The same situation can apply
to those who were forced to study not by himself, but by other things.
On the top of that, determining children's
allowance by their academic performance evaluated by school is not reasonable. We
can't say that the criteria by which school evaluate children's performance is
perfect. Therefore, parents should not offer their children money depending on
their grade they get in school. A few weeks ago, I had a chance a read an
article which was related to the topic. It described the result of a research
conducted by Korea University. The research was that researcher let three
teachers to test and evaluate a child. Surprisingly, the grades the child got by
the three teachers were somewhat different. It clearly proves that there is
some differences between the evaluation systems for each of teachers, so giving
children money solely depending on the grade they get in school is not
reasonable.
As I mentioned above, based on my personal
experience and the result of the research, I can conclude that people should
not provide their children with money for each high grade they get in school.
