Some people might say that it is more fun for people to watch movies without reading the original books in advance. However, in my opinion, watching movies after reading the original work is more beneficial concerning the reasons that it helps people get the idea of the movie's plot, and gives some enjoyment that people can get only through the process.
To begin with, if people read original books before they watch a movie based on the book, they would be able to understand the movie's story better. This is because movies and books are quite different in terms of showing the stort even though they have the same plot. In particular, movies are usually more symbolic and difficult to undersatnd at once since they should include all the story into the predetermined running time. A detective story is especially relevant with this point, and I will take an example of myself related with a detective film. Last time, I saw the movie, "Sherlock Holmes", with my friend, and the movie was based on the original novel. The story was not easy to understand at once because finding culprit and clues is a professional process. As a result, my friend who did not read the original book could not grasp the movie well, and asked me repetitively about the story during all the running time. In contrast, I read the book before watching movie, so I did not experience the problem and was able to explain the plot to my friend.
On top of that, it is fun to compare differences betwen a movie and a book. To be specific, all people imagine the story and scenes when they read a book, and such imagination is extraordinarily different individual by individual. The same can be said to movie directors. That is, movie directors would also fancy the book's story differently from other spectators. Therefore, spectators can find and compare such differences while watching the movie, and this would be an unique enjoyment for spectators who read the original plot in advance. I know this from my experience. When I saw the movie, "Harry Potter", which was based on the book, I surprised that the appearance of the "Hogwarts" , where the protagonist lived in, was almost same with my imagination. In addition, I also found that there were some differences between the movie and my imagination when it comes to the shape of the major market in the story. These comparisons made me more enjoy the movie.
In conclusion, when watching movies, people can understand symbolic and difficult stories better by reading books before watching them, and also find pleasure to discover differences between the movie and their own imagination about the story. |
