▶ Your Answer : There might be some people who believe that governments should support scientific research even if it does not have any practical use, However, I personally disagree with the above idea for subsequent reasons. First, governments cannot afford to spend money for impractical things. Second, support of scientific research is not governments's responsibility. First of all, there are not that much money to invest for impractical things. Governments should decide which is more valuable for the country's overall growth because the revenue comes from residents' taxes. There are other many important issues such as health or education. Also in the case of my country, Republic of Korea has to invest for the military problems due to we are still warfare nation. In addition, governments should provide the list of tax that they spend. That time, they can not avoid blame from people if they invest much money on impractical scientific researches. On top of that, it is not government's responsibility that support of scientific research. What I mean is that there are already sufficient systems for respective researches by universities or companies. Let me bring up my sister's story as an example. She is a research worker belong in a company. Actually her study is so tiny that can not make commercial benefit. However, she have paid by the company because they buy her study's vision. Once they decide to make a product which is refered from her study and selling it, they do not have to worry about investments, because they earn a lot of money from that research. Hence, there is no need for extra funding from the government. In conclusion, governments not only cannot waste money on research that has no practical use, but also have no responsibility to support scientific research. In this regard, I personally believe that governments should not support impractical scientific research. |
