▶ Your Answer :
Various
opinions may exist over the argument that it is not scientists’ responsibility
when their discoveries affect humans. As far as I am concerned, I am in
complete agreement with the argument. The two ideas stated below can valid
evidence to support my view.
To
start with, the world we live in has changed rapidly every day and every
aspect, and there are many fields to study for scientists have separated and
specialized continuously. Scientists have to study and experiment many things
for good use, but they cannot consider all possibility use of their invention.
There are so many science fields to consider, and all technologies we use every
day have pros and cons, so how employ these technologies is depend on us.
Therefore, it is impossible for scientists to think all possibility of using
technology to apply every aspects of science field. For example, Marie Curie discovered
iridium that important to generate nuclear energy. She did not apply a patient for
her discovery and study because she hoped to use this atom to make energy for
human kind. However, nuclear energy now use for weapon that kill millions of
people and destroy huge area cruelly. Undoubtedly, Marie Curie’s discovery and
studying them to generate energy was developed for human beings, but some use
this invention to make them a weapon, others make energy.
On
top of that, it is not scientists that make use of technology to affect people,
but people who desire to gain benefits, especially businessmen. Scientists
experiment their study and experience trial and error because they want to make
their invention and contribute to advance of technology. They have pure
ambitious to invent new things because these are their hope as a scientist.
However, once technologies are invented, they are disclosed to public and
finally many people apply the technology many aspects. In this step, people use
technology to make a profit for them, and it might be a negative result that
not scientists’ intention. For example, scientists invented genetic modified
organisms to cope with ever-scarcer food supply. They are very effective way to
solve the lack of food source because they can grow almost every land, and
produce a large amount of crops. However, a multinational corporation Monsanto has
many patients for these crop’s seed, and requires farmers to excessive money to
buy them and farmers cannot purchase them. As a result, despite of this
technology, people somewhere in the world still suffer from lack of food, and
this is not scientists’ fault but businessmen did.
To
sum up, I believe my explanations above sufficiently prove the agreement of the
result of discoveries are not scientists’ responsible. Obviously, my
significance of scientists’ difficulty of considering all aspects and the use
of technologies for benefit cannot be overemphasized enough.
