Some people think that a teacher’s income should be set according to by his or her students’ academic accomplishment. However, in my opinion, teachers’ earnings should not be related to their students’ fulfillment for the following two reasons. First of all, there are some students who do not do their best on exams, even though their teachers always have a strong attempt to teach them well. In addition, diligent students can get lower grades when they are evaluated based on relative evaluation. To begin with, some students do not study hard even if they have a competent teacher. These students cannot help getting lower grades since they do not have any will to study diligently. Thus, they will not be able to get much knowledge while taking they take a class. As a result, lazy students will end up showing poor performance at school. However, their teachers have to be paid proper money because they always do their best to help their students. For example, according to a survey conducted by UCLA’s research department, about 80 percent of participants reported that they had a lot of students who did not take a class actively in their classes. They taught these student at least five hours per day to make them have better scholastic achievement at school but they failed. The reason for this was that these students looked passive and lethargic when they had a discussion in classes. Thus, it is evident that even though teachers try hard to make students developed, they cannot improve when their students do not participate in a class actively. On top of that, students who do their best in a class can get poor grades when they are graded by relative evaluation. This is because there are a lot of students who participate in a class as hard as they can. Thus, industrious students have to compete with their peers and it is hard to get good grades on exam because most of students are nearly equal in their skills. However, their teachers make a strong effort to improve their students’ performance, so it is not their fault that students get lower grades. For instance, when I was in high school, about ten students were on a similar level in math. Math teacher always used all of his break time on taking questions of these students. However, two of them did not get a higher score on final exam since the school applied relative evaluation to grade students. Two students were disappointed at their scores but did not blame on the teacher. Consequently, teachers’ earnings should not be affected by their students’ performance because many schools use relative evaluation. To sum up, even though teacher teach harder, a few students do not study diligently and some schools use relative evaluation system. In this regard, I believe that teachers’ payment should not be determined by their students’ grades.
