Developed technology helps people easily travel around the world. The costs of travels have been reduced significantly and the conveniences during the travel have been increased. Some people benefit from this trend because they enjoy taking a trip, but others avoid to have an opportunity to live outside their home country. In my opinion, I believe an experience of living in a foreign country for a long period could positively affect people even if they have little interest in exotic cultures.
To begin with, it is essential for a person to learn about foreign languages. Many people passionately devote themselves to learning foreign languages. Schools and governments spend a lot of money and time ensuring to ensure (spend O doing = O를 doing하는 데 쓰다) quality programs facilitating language learning. Youths completely believe that having a command of a foreign language is one of the crucial factors deciding whether they get a job. Also, older people pay attention to foreign language because of pure interest. Needless to say, one of the most efficient methods to learn a specific language is to visit and to live in a country where people communicate with this language. People who are living in a foreign country spontaneously spend much time speaking and listening about the language. After having at least one year of inhabiting, they could well develop their new language skills.
On top of that, an experience made of living in an unfamiliar circumstance makes a person independent. When a person moves into a new environment, everything is novel to him. He has to get used to a new country’s custom, social construction, and culture. Since every decision is hard to make, he must fully concentrate on how things work. This process makes a person more determinative and wise. For example, one of my cousins lacks self-control and behaves unplanned. Then his parents had to move out and live in France. Even if he lived with his parents, he spent much rough time in there compared to the previous life in his hometown. I had not seen him for several years before I met him on Christmas Eve, 2010. When I noticed him and had a brief conversation with him, I found out he had changed completely. He was no longer a boy who cried whenever he couldnot n’t get what he wanted.
To sum up, living in a foreign country helps people develop a new language and grow up. In this regard, I firmly assert that every individual should spend at least a year living in a foreign country. |
