The reading passage insists about the three disadvantages which are caused by private fossils collectors. In contrast, in the lecture, the professor claims that the private collectors lead to good advantages which outhweigh the disadvantages.
First, the reading passage claims that the public are not allowed to see fossils which belong to private collectors. But, the professor casts doubt on it and claims that the private collectors encourage the public to have more interest in. Thus, the purchasing fossils of public result in the increasing of exposure to students.
Next, the writer asserts that the more the private collectors buy fossils, the less scientists get access to the important fossils. However, the lecturer claims that it would not happen because the private collectors want to get the scientific identification from the scientists. They want to verify their collections from scientists with high reliablity. If anything, scientists get more chance to exmaine diverse fossils.
Last, the reading passage suggests that collectors may destroy precious scientific evidence around the fossils they get. Because they have nothing to do with the scientific value of the fossils, but everything to do with the commercial value. That being said, the lecturer rebuts the idea due to the possibility of increasing undiscover acitivities. The business of fossils encourages people to collect more fossils and this phenomenon covers the deficiency of the destorying values. If people do not want to make harm on the fossils, they must keep the fossils undiscovered forever. |
