Some people think that conducting research is more important for university professors than educating students. However, In my opinion, A university professor's most important responsibility is to educate students, not conduct research. There are two reasons. First, good teaching makes good students. Second, There are a lot of people who conduct research about one field. To begin with, one of the requirement of a great professor is an educating skill. No matter how superb a teacher's capacity is, What If the professor have no speaking skills? You would know how terrible it is. The most important thing is the way teachers convey their knowledge. For example, I looked forward to a professor's class because he was well-known as expert of marketing. However, when I took a first class, I was very disappointed to the class. He seemed to be awkward and his voice is too small to listen a classes. It is difficult for me to concentrate on a class. Eventually I screwed up my marketing test. On the other hand, After that, Now I take a young professor's course. He have his own charisma so he lead me to study hard, I think. Next, There are a lot of researchers who study a kind of field. Many specialists like researchers is studying diverse areas as well as professors. Although professors who conduct research have good influence on students, but they are enough to only teach students to improve their skills. professors can utilize appropriate materials like other's thesis and books for a class. For example, my favorite professor show a variety of materials of others her students. She presents good examples and explain unfamiliar concept using materials. Therefore students can understand her classes easily and enjoy studying.
In conclusion, A university professor's most necessary responsibility is to educate students considering that professor's authentic qualification and a number of experts who study a kind of field, not only professors. In this regard, I firmly believe that educating students is much more crucial than conducting research. |
