As society develops, many issues arise regarding our lives and raise heated debate among people. One such issue that arouses our interest is whether to become financially responsible adults, children should learn how to manage money. People from different walks of life may take different stances on this issue. Personally I agree with the given statement. There are several reasons that could validate my positions, but in this essay, I will introduce two of them as follows.
To begin with, people who are not taught about managing their money at early age can be easily impulsive in deciding to buy stuffs. Inappropriate content, such as sex and violence makes teenagers reckless and aggressive. Today, many commercials use sexual images and symbols to appeal to consumers. Teenagers are easy target of this strategy because they lack a sense of morality and judgment. When constantly exposed to such commercials, young children and teenagers are likely to be impulsive in their decision making to use their money. Also, this habit would continue when they become adults. That is why people have to learn how to properly manage their money at early ages. According to a study conducted by MBC, one of the Korean public broadcasting stations, the surveyed people responded that they may buy products recklessly in attractive commercials even if the products are not the stuffs that they need. In the survey of more than a hundred people in the Seoul metropolitan area, the respondents said that they have had a lopsided pattern of consumption because constantly exposed to inappropriate advertisements since their childhood. This clearly indicates that in order to be adults having a balanced habit of consumption, people have to learn how to manage their money at early ages.
Another compelling reason is that people would be pressured and get stressed out because learning how to handle money is extremely time consuming thing. People are often tied up with busy schedules and overwhelmed by enormous amount of tasks at work. They cannot get enough time to take a step back and refresh themselves. Given this, learning how to become a financially responsible person is a huge burden to today’s stress ridden people. That is why people have to learn economic education during childhood to have a sense of financial responsibility. Let me use my experience as an example. Before entering my company, I had been not taught about the conception of managing money. After first month on my job, I spent my salaries recklessly and I almost become insolvent. Afterwards, I tried to learn how to properly manage my money, but enormous tasks at work did not allow me to learn such skills. If I were taught such education at my early ages, I could have been a financially responsible person.
All in all, because of reasons mentioned above, I firmly believe that to become financially responsible adults, it is at early ages that the proper time to learn economic education is. |
