People learn more by watching television than by reading books
Some people say that watching TV is a better way to absorb information than reading books. However, I strongly feel that books are way better when it comes to earning information and knowledge for a couple of reasons. The reasons are as follows: 1) books provide more details that TV do not; 2) and TV does not allow people to control their pace.
To begin with, people can get more specific information from by reading books, which is impossible by watching TV. This is because since books contain references to help readers' understanding, people are able to find additional source using the the links. However, TV does not offer any references to its audience, and people cannot get extra source from it. This can make a huge difference between two channels on the identical issue. For example, I was given the topic about how infants can learn languages from their parents as my senior research project. My professor wanted me to find specific psychological mechanisms behind the behavior of learning process. I looked into a lot of books and articles to find out them, and also watched a lot of documentaries from TV. Compared to readings, it was really hard to find more detailed information from television although the programs were made by the most famous TV station in the UK. However, it was far easier to find related source of information from books and articles. Thanks to the written information, I could get an A on my senior project. If I had relied on TV as a major resource, I would not have had had have an A on the subject.
In addition, TV does not let its audience control their pace of absorbing information. Unlike books, TV just focuses on what it wants to deliver to people. People, however, can pause a little while and contemplate on some paragraphs while going over books. In other words, TV takes is an unidirectional communication way. All people need to do when they watch TV is just sitting in their couch and watching it. There is no additional communication partner, and you cannot ask any questions or discussions with it. However, when you read books, although there is not an a living author before you, it is possible to converse with him or her. You can use the contexts of stories from the books and imagine the author and yourself having a dialogue with each other. This can expand your knowledge and perspectives a lot.
All in all, people are able to have more benefits from reading books than watching TV. This is because not only can people adjust their speed of absorbing information while reading books, but also books offer more specific information on the identical issues. For these reasons, I believe books are a better channel for people to take information. for taking information to people.
