▶ Your Answer :
There has
been an argument over whether working home is more effective or not. I strongly
believe that working at office is much more effective than working at home
because people can be easily distracted at home and not having colleagues and
superiors lead no low productivity.
The first and
the foremost reason is that home is full of distraction, where people cannot
concentrate on the work properly. That is, since home is not a set environment
for working, and people are used to doing daily activities such as eating and
sleeping, they will be easily distracted to get some food out of freezer or
turning on the television, or start cleaning the house. If such activities
happen, it would interfere one’s concentration on the work. For example, my
company offered working at home upon employee’s application, so I worked at
home for about a month last year. It was very comfortable at first, having not
to wake up too early, or not rushing though the traffic jam. However, I lost
focus on my work soon on doing other trivial activities, and the actual working
hour has reduced. As a result, my work performance reduced dramatically so I stopped
working at home. From this experience, it is obvious to me that working in the
office is much better.
Another
equally important reason is that because there are no colleagues or superiors
to motivate workers, the productivity would decrease. To elaborate, certain
amount of competition or pressure stimulate worker’s motivation, leading to
increase in productivity. However, working at home exempts such condition;
therefore, employee can be lazy and unfocused resulting in low productivity.
According to a research done by Department of Business in Seoul National
University, the team which was exposed to the competitive environment had
higher productivity than the team which was not. In this sense, it is much
better working in the office than at home.
To wrap up,
working in the office is much better than working at home in the sense that
home is poor environment to focus on work, and office triggers certain amount
of competition and pressure which help to raise productivity.
