▶ Your Answer : Some people might think as the world is changing so quickly, people become happier than before. However, I believe that people now are less happy or less satisfied with their lives than people were in the past. First of all, even though the technologies are advanced, older people do not know how to make use of them. Hence, development does not always guarantee people's happiness. Understanding the older people using the subway is necessary to substantiate that they spend hard time being accustomed to advanced technologies. In Seoul city, there is complicated subway system, which consists of many subway lines. Even though this complex subway network make people move easily, older people have difficulty in finding their ways. Since there are many transfer stations, they do not know which line they should transfer to get to the destination. Also, when transferring, since the station is like a maze to them, they have hard time finding the exit and platform. For example, two years ago, my grandmother went to Seoul to go to hospital. It usually takes less than twenty minutes by the subway. So, she decided to take the subway to get to the hospital. Although she did not need to transfer, it took two hours to go to the hospital because she took the wrong number of line at first and transferred three times. On top of that, as the world changes so rapidly, industry demands new capabilities from people, which makes people less happy. In response to the increasing importance of rapid development, many expert opinions and research statistics reinforce the idea that fast changing industry makes people more unsatisfied with their lives. Experts say that in order to survive cut-throat competition, people are required to have many abilities at work. Thirty years ago, people did not have difficulty entering companies if they had graduated a college. They were just required to make a report neatly. However, as the world changes, in order to join a companies, people should have presentation skills, know how to make a spreadsheet, and speak not only English but also other languages. These unrealistic requirements give people stress and eventually make them less happy. A friend of mine, for example, graduated from a college last year, but he has hard time getting a job. He should study one more year to enter a company because he is required to have high TOEIC score and modeling certificates, and has employment exam.
To sum up, I believe that people now are less happy or less satisfied with their lives than people were in the past. Consequently, the importance of my view cannot be underestimated for the reasons I mentioned above.
