First of all, since students spend
most of their daily time at school with other students, they are relatively more
influenced by their colleagues than their parents. Especially, nowadays as the
society is increasingly becoming globalized and competition is drastically
increasing, it makes students to expend more time at school in order to survive
this heavy competition than ever before. As a result, they spend vast amount of
their time with their classmates and their future success is also naturally
associated with them rather than their parents. According to study done by New
York Times, it revealed that 70 percent of students answered that they thought
of their home as just like accommodations. It means that home didn`t have a
significant meaning for students any more. This is because they were not able
to spend as much time at home with their parents as they did with classmates. Therefore,
it is very clear that the influence of classmates is much bigger than the one
of parents.
Second, a competition with others
at school can help students succeed in the future. In modern society, they have
to overcome the heavy competition at school in an attempt to attend good
universities, which is one of the contributing factors to success in life. As a
result, they want to get higher grades than other students, and it causes a
sense of rivalry with other students. Therefore, it allows them to concentrate
on study better and help them to be successful in life. According to study done
by Korea Education Research Center in 2012, the study was conducted for two groups
of students. “A” students only studied alone at home, so they didn`t feel a
sense of competition. On the other hand, “B” students studied at school with
other classmates, so inevitably they were always in competition with other
students. Since the latter students were easily inspired to focus on their
study due to the heavy competition, they were able to get higher score on the
college entrance exam than “A” students. Through this experiment, it proves
that the competition caused by other classmates has great impact on their
future success.
