Some people insist that it is better for students to work together on a project, while others may not. The answer to this intriguing topic can vary greatly depending on individual’s perspectives. In my opinion, I am in complete agreement with the statement that working together on a project is much more effective than working alone for students for two major reasons as follows.
First off, students are able to accomplish a large amount of works through the division of work. No matter how many tasks there are, it becomes easy for a group to handle it by simply dividing the workload. To take my personal experience for example, when I was in college, my classmates and I were assigned to submit the project in a short amount of time. At first, I was worried of finishing within a deadline because I had a prejudice that working together would be difficult due to the differences of individual’s views. However, as I advanced the project with others, I realized that working together is much more productive. This is because we were able to deal with huge amounts of work load by dividing tasks and cooperating with others. As seen in this case, working together is effective way to work on a project than working alone.
On top of that, working with other people encourages students to share their ideas and invent an effective way to accomplish a project. In case of working alone, there is a certain limit one can think of. On the other hand, working in a group makes possible to share information from various perspectives. The best example to illustrate this point is the story when I was in college. At that time, I worked on a project with students whose majors are different from mine. We discussed the way to research about topic and one of the members majoring in computer science suggested to use a specific program which I had not known at all. Without this member, I would not have been able to think of using the program. The result of a project was excellent. Through this experience, I realized that collaborating with others allows me to maximize synergy effect and makes it possible to achieve amazing results.
There is a saying in Korea that ‘It is better to work together even if it is an easy thing.’ In this respect, I strongly argue that it is much more effective for students to work together than working alone on account of the two reasons mentioned above.
