Some people contend that to protect the health of young children, advertisements for junk food should not be shown on television. I support such argument. There are many reasons that could espouse my position, but the two biggest reasons for my position will be explained in the following. First of all, advertisements should not use unhealthy food on television. Advertisements often mislead people with biased information. Today, companies compete fiercely to lead the market and bombard consumers with advertisements filled with images and sounds. The problem is that in order to grab people’s attention and sell more products, these advertisements highlight only product’s positive aspects. Teenagers are easy targets of this strategy because they lack a sense of morality and judgment. When constantly exposed to such advertisements, young children are likely to be unhealthy. In this context, junk food advertisement should not be allowed. my own case is good example of this. I recently watched TV commercial about a candy. It emphasized the candy’s various colors and flavors. Although I already own a candy and had no plans to buy a new one, I was fascinated by the product’s features and decided to buy it. Not long afterward, I found it contained cancer -causing agent. Moreover, toxic food advertisement has influence on negative aspects of children’s health. In today’s competitive society, children are under great pressure to outpace others, and thus lack time to be with their families and friends. As a result, they are less emotionally attached to their families and friends than they were in the past. Therefore advertisement should carefully harness their product’s value. According to a recent survey in Health Magazine, nearly two thirds of children felt that they exposed too much unhealthy food. They also argued that they want to food for their health in television. All in all, because of the reasons mentioned above, I firmly believe that junk food advertisement not only be blocked, but not showed. |
