There may be pros and cons regarding the argument that children should play
sports for fun. I am in complete agreement with this argument. In this paper, I
elaborate on the two strongest reasons for my position.
My first argument for playing sports for fun should be espoused. Playing
sports for fun is actually entertaining, and, therefore, it makes children
laugh and fills them with happiness and joy. Today's society moves and changes
at a very fast pace, so children are driven by hectic lifestyles. As a result,
children often feel gloomy and drained because their lives are occupied with increasing
amounts of studies. Many of them, therefore, relive some of their stress by
doing fun activities such as playing sports for fun, not playing sports for
competition. In this context, playing sports for fun cannot be overlooked. My
personal experience is a prime example. On a day-to-day basis, I bury myself in
homework, and I am occupied by homework-related matters throughout the day. Even
worse, I am eager to be on good terms with my classmates and teachers, which
makes me utterly exhausted by the smallest issues. I then play golf for fun to
reduce my anxiety. To my surprise, even for a brief period of time, I can
unwind and successfully escape my stressful daily routine. Furthermore, I feel
galvanized and ready for another day of struggle.
Moreover, my strong support for playing sports for enjoyment can be
rationalized. This is attributed to the fact that playing sports for fun helps
children develop solid relationships with others. In today's rat-race society,
children feel pressured to beat the competition and thus spend more and more
hours on study. Consequently, they are hard-pressed for time and alienated from
families and friends. In this context, playing sports for fun together and
sharing happy moments can help children restore relationships. Therefore,
playing sports for fun should be regarded as a significant pastime. In a recent
surveyed carried out by Harvard University, nearly two thirds of children said
that they were able to rebuild their ties with family members and friends
through fun activities such as playing sports. The children argued that with
the help of playing sports, for example, they could interact with others frequently
and develop close bonds, which increases emotional attachments.
Because of the reasons explained above, I strongly maintain that children
should play sports for fun should be recommended within the unique context of
today's society.
