In this argument, some people maintain that people do not have to do something that they do not enjoy doing. To support the argument, people may cite the fact that we pursue happiness so that we do not need waste of time to spend do things that we do not enjoy. However, this argument is problematic and I firmly believe that sometimes we should do things that we do not enjoy for the following reasons; First, our life can be improved by various hardships that we may meet through all stages of our lives. Moreover, successful people made great accomplishments by overcoming setbacks.
First of all, we can improve our lives when we do things that we do not prefer. According to the resonance theory suggested by Newburg, the professor in University of Florida, the achievement of life can be realized through the specific process; we dream, prepare for the dream, face setbacks, and achieve our dreams. As Newberg said, our life always can be improved by dreaming and overcoming obstacles that disturb realization of the dreams.
Second, if we want to make more success in our life and to be happy, we should be able to endure several things that we do not want to do. In a recent survey, conducted by Harvard Business Review in 2012, most successful CEOs of Fortune 100 corporations regard effort and endurance as top priority factors of their success. In other words, World top class professionals, such as Olympic medalists, CEOs, and artists made their successful stories by overcoming several hardships for a long time. For example, gold medalist of snowboard in Winter Olympic Games, Shawn white overcame several injuries and risks of dying in slopes to be the world best half-pipe snowboarding player and to win his gold medal.
All things considered, because the argument that people do not need do things that they annoy leaves out several issues, it is not completely sound or persuasive. To evaluate their opinions more properly, they should consider how people can get more benefits and be happy after overcoming hardships that people do not want to do. In this perspective, I believe that we can improve our lives through the things that we do not enjoy to do and these things will be definitely helpful for our future. |
