An intriguing topic of discussion at hand is whether teachers should not make their social or political views known to students in the classroom. The answer to this question can vary greatly, depending on the individual perspectives. Thus, the jury may still be out, but as far as I am concerned, I agree with the statement. In this essay, I will present two reasons supporting my standpoint as follows.
First of all, a personal view of a teacher may not allow students to broaden their horizon. This is attributed to the fact that the students may lose opportunities that is contemplation about social or political issue, due to a specific view of a teacher. These opportunities can expose them to different worlds of lifestyles and various cultures. Through this experience, they can learn to embrace diversity. For instance, when I was in highschool, my history teacher always sent his political opinion to me. His opinion was negative historical story of the conservative conventional side. So, for a long time, I had prejudice to the conservative conventional side and could not objectively consider to korea’s history.
Second, Teacher’s personal opinions about social issue may deter students from enjoying a better school life. This is because when students thinks that their opinion is not same with a teacher’s view, it can stress students people out because it is challenging. Moreover, stress is one of the main factors that weaken the immune system and cause harm to the body. According to the a study conducted by Seoul National University of Korea in 2010, a test on mice showed that when they were regularly subjected to certain sounds that mice hate, their life span was shortened. Interestingly, the researches found a link between this and human beings who suffered from chronic stress is caused by different view. It can be inferred that constant teacher’s views about social topic can lead to high stress levels and this can reduce a student’s longevity.
In conclusion, I strongly argue for my standpoint on account of two reasons mentioned above. Once again, although the verdict may still be out, I personally believe that two of my rationales those are to enjoy a better school life and to broad horizon are sufficiently convincing enough to represent the viewpoints of a majority of people who are in favor of my claim.
