There is no shortage of opinion on the most important
things people learn are from their families. In my opinion, people can learn
social relationships in their families. I strongly believe that a family is the
smallest society in the world, considering various composition of family
members and certain rules among them. The following paragraphs will explain my
two major reasons for this opinion.
To begin with, people can practice
how to live in a society with several populations in their families because
they have faced family members like parents and siblings after they were born.
Let me take my personal example. Ji-eun, my sister, and I have struggled since
we shared one room in the house. Even though we are family, our personalities
are different and it causes troubles. For example, she is likely to sleep at
before 11 pm while I go to sleep after 1 am. Due to these differences, we have
learned how to adjust these problems by communicating sincerely. These
experiences have encouraged me to overcome other difficulties outside of
family, like in the working place. Therefore, it is reasonable to say that
people can improve social skills in their families because they meet family
members who have different range of personality every day.
Furthermore, people can learn social
manners when they respect their family members. Most fundamentally, children and
parents have to respect each other to live together. Because of interaction in
family, people can be harmonized in society such as school, work, and common
places. Following anecdote highly supports the idea. The researchers of Seoul
University conducted a survey. Workers were asked to write over their social
linkages. The survey showed that more than 80 percent of subjects mentioned
that their family members are the most significant factors that impact on their
formation of personality. Thus, analyzing the case above, I can undoubtedly
believe that people can get common senses of social skills as valuable lessons
from their families.
To sum up, although a system of
family might provide not just opportunities to improve social skills but also
to other things like emotional supports, the most important thing that the
system grants is the way how to live together in society. This is
because family consists of various members and they teach and learn each other
by harmonizing.
