Some people say that in order to succeed, it is more important to learn things well by studying than to think creatively. However, I disagree that having knowledge from study is better for success. For one thing, knowledge from study is not always essential for success. Secondly, sticking to knowledge can actually be an obstacle to success.
If knowledge is essential to be successful, all successful people should have Ph. D, MS, MA, or MBA. However, because of creativity, there are many people out there who have achieved success without any of these degrees. Some of them have not even been to college.Let me take a teen CEO in my country for example. She runs an online fashion shopping mall and is known to have become a millionaire thanks to the business. She only graduated high school. Of course, she studied fashion before establishing the company, but what made this teen entrepreneur successful was not the studying she did, but her creativity to design unique goodsand create a shopping mall on the Internet when there were only few internet shopping malls. In the biginning, only a few people visited her website and actually purchased items. Over time, however, her distinctive characteristics were catching on by word of mouth and more and more praising comments were posted on the bulletin board. The ripple effect brought more and more customers, and now she has become a teen CEO. This shows not only that knowledge from study is not and essential condition for success, but also that creativity is a more important factor to becoming successful.
Next, too much knowledge does not always help you to be successful. In fact, it can even be harmful because too much knowledge can cause people to lose flexibility, and, as a result, it can prevent good ideas. This is exemplified in the well-known story about discovering the double helix structure of DNA. At that time, Watson and Crick, who had discovered the structure of DNA, were not the only two who were eager to find out. Most well-known biologists were desperate to discover the secret of DNA, including Pauling, a respected biologist, who had even won a Nobel Prize. Even though Watson and Crick were just 'newbies' compared to Pauling, Pauling had too much knowledge and was opinionated adhering to the idea that DNA must consist of just a single helix. As a result, he wasn't able to find the truth. In contrast, although Watson and Crick had less knowledge than Pauling, by thinking creatively and ignoring the idea of the 'single helix', they were not only able to gain a good reputation, but also won a Nobel prize for the discovery, which was a Huge success as a scientist. In this sense, knowledge can actually be an obstacle to the success.
In conclusion, I disagree that knowledge from study is more important than creativity for success for the reasons that I have mentioned above. First, knowlege is not always a key factor to success. Second, too much knowledge can cause distraction and inflexibility, and it can be an obstacle to success.
