The reading passage contends that the main culprit of the dodo’s extermination is human. on the other hand, the lecturer brings up several points that contradict this argument.
First, the speaker argues that even though the dutch , the settler in Mauritius, could easily catch the dodo, they might not kill the dodo because they dislike it at its dutch name meant disgusting. Furthermore, it’s meat tastes bad as well as is tough. This casts doubt on the reading passage which states that the dutch and their animals hunted the flightless dodo .
Second, according to the lecturer, there are large enough areas to live for dodo. It is other specie’s survival that supported this. What’s more, the dodo couldn’t fly, which means it’s nests on not trees but ground. Therefore they might free from deforest. This refutes the reading passage’s assertion that dodo’s killing off is credited with deforestation by the dutch.
The final point made by the lecturer is that disease from human is not the reason why dodo became extinct. virtually the decrease in dodo is going on when human arrive, also, cyclones and high wind would attack the place the dodo lives in. this counters the writer’s claim that the dodo disappeared because illness brought by human. |
