There is an argument whether childhood is the most crucial years in lifetime for one’s intellectual development or not. Although it may be true that people can improve their intelligence in other time of their lives, I agree that one’s childhood is the most important period for his intellectual development. In this essay, I will present briefly two reasons supporting my idea.
First, one’s childhood is the most appropriate time to learn something in that people can understand and learn things without a routine thinking but with a pure enthusiasm. To be specific, since children know little about things around themselves and the world, they do not have any stereotype or prejudice on a subject and as a result they can absorb knowledges and information more easily than people in other age. In addition, children are extremely curious about everything around them and curiosity is one of the essential virtues for a learner. With that curiosity, children begin to have a pure desire to know about something and become enthusiastic.
Second, what people see and learn at their childhood has very critical impact on their later lives because the learning process at that time happens concurrently with verbal and cognitive growth. For example, it is not so difficult to recognize the difference between an adolescent who watched violent movies and the other one who read a number of books in their childhood. The former shows a strong tendency to talk in an aggressive way and think about destructive things whereas the latter shows bigger range of knowledge and seems to be more intellectual and apt to academic activities. For most of the cases, these tendencies would continue for the kids’ later lives.
To conclude, I maintain that the learning in one’s childhood is the most important on account of the reasons I mentioned above: Childhood is not only the most efficient time for flexible and passionate learning but also the most influential time for one’s later life. |
