It is often said that learning knowledge is more important than to develop creativity. Some people might disagree with this statement because developing one's creativity requires more time and efforts than getting knowledge. However, I am strongly support that improving knowledge should come first rather than nurturing creativity in terms of getting a promising job and realizing ideas.
To begin with, one's knowledge plays a significant role in getting a better job. Of course, creativity is important in a modern society, but it is difficult to evaluate one's creativity objectively. Thus, most companies consider knowledge of their potential workers which is easily and objectively standardized by tests or GPA, Grade Point Average, in schools. To be specific, according to the Ministry of Labor in Korea in 2007, people with over than 3.5 on GPA in college are employed in large companies three times higher than other people with lower than 3.5 on GPA. This obviously indicates that one's knowledge has more effects on his or her promising future.
In addition, in-depth knowledge is essential to realize creative ideas. It is obvious that it is difficult to apply creative ideas to real life without knowledge related them. Therefore, those impractical ideas are totally useless. For example, when I was a freshman in college, I and other classmates were asked to build a model building in a construction course. Most of us built a normal one with stabilty. In contrast, one of us tried to build a very beautiful and unusual house which had more broad a top floor than a base floor. Unfortunately, his creative house was fallen because he did not take the relation between weight and stability, one of the basic concepts of construction, into consideration. If he had not overlooked the importance of construction principles, his house might have been successful.
In brief, I firmly believe that we should focus more on studying knowledge than improving our creativity in that good knowledge provides us with more opportunities to attain better jobs and realize the creative ideas. In the other words, the importance of learning knowledge cannot be underestimated to survive in a modern society. |
