It is often said that a job with lots of vacation is better than a job with higher salary, low free time. However, I strongly disagree with the above statement. The rationale behind this is that spending amount of vacation time increase work efficiency. Moreover, a higher salary is rarely related to quality of life.
To begin with, providing more vacation days at work can improve work efficiency. This is because everyday mundane tasks can wear people out of originality and drain enthusiasm. Therefore, taking adequate amounts of break from work can recharge people with fresh energy and help them to concentrate better on their tasks. According to a study recently released by Korea National Research Center, students who spend much family time who did extracurricular activities such as playing sports and musical instruments performed better in school with a high GPA 3.8 on average. On the other hand, students who don't have enough time to play other activities because of their busy life have got a low grade. These students dozed off in class and lacked focus in class materials. This implies that more work does not always mean more productivity and better results.
In addition, more money does not always guarantee genuine happiness. Although many people believe that choosing jobs with high salary will provide them with a better life, many of them actually end up unhappy. This is because the lure of money turns people into workaholic, depriving them of quality of time with family and friends. For example, in the movies "Devils wear Prada," the character Miranda Presley is a very successful businesswoman yet a total workaholic, infamous for her dictatorship in the office. She has divorced multiple times and practically lived a lonely life behind the doors. Although she made a lot of money, her amount of money did not make her a truly happy woman. It implies that more money does not mean genuine happiness. |
