In our fast paced society, the concept of a permanent job is becoming vague. It is hard to see a person who look forward to working at one company for all one's life. I strongly agree with the statement and believe that pursuing the virtue of flexibility has greatly contributed to this social phenomenon.
To begin with, the pursuit of flexibility has forced employees not to work at the same company for their lifetime. In other words, companies have power to replace their workers to handle their situation flexibly. This is due to the fact that both companies and employees want flexibility. When it comes to the company, the flexibility means that they can hire and fire the workers whenever they want. Every company company wants to hire outstanding workers and dismiss employees who could not perform very well. Also, when a company copes with difficult time, they have to lay off employees, whereas they might want to hire more workers when they have spare money to invest in human resources. In order to thrive in prosperous times and weather through the difficulties, companies cannot help but to resort to such options.
Not only company want flexibility, but also employees look forward to it too. As the right of employees has become important in our society and welfare for them has been advanced significantly, people in these days are seeking jobs which can meet fully their needs. In the past, they want to remain in the one company because they believe that the company will offer stability to them for their whole lives. However, As companies want flexibility in operating their business and needs of employees become various, it becomes nearly impossible for workers to expect their needs to be met in the one company. As a reslut, people begin to leave their company to pursue their own virtue or higher conditions. For example, in the case of a working mom, she might want to join the company which has great facility for day care and set good welfare system for working moms. |
