People have different opinions on whether telecommuting is profitable. The lecturer disagrees with the idea that telecommuting is profitable for both employers and employees as opposed to the reading passage’s positive arguments about working at home.
First of all, telecommuting is not enjoyable (why enjoyable?) (telecommuting brings negative impacts) to employers because employees work less productively at home (because employees are less likely to be productive at home). When working at home, employees tend to take too much break (employees tend to be slackers and to take breaks too often). Also, employees do things other than the work they are supposed to be working on even when the work time is not over (Also, employees do not fully focus on their work and do other things that are not related to work, even when the work time is not over). These factors decrease productivity of employees. As a result, employers don’t profit (benefit) from telecommuting since the decrease of profit which less productivity brings about is bigger than the money they save in real estate, which completely rebuffs the arguments of the reading passage.
Also, telecommuting isn’t advantageous for employees, either. Employees tend to feel depressed when they work at home because they have no human interaction other than family if they have one. Additionally, they find it hard to separate their work from their home affairs, and everything starts to melt together in an unhealthy way. Therefore, working at home is not an enjoyable way of working at home for employees, which is an opposite of what the reading passage argues.
To sum up, the lecturer cast doubt on the points made in the reading for the reasons mentioned above. First, employer don’t profit from telecommuting because employees work less productively at home. Second, employees often find themselves depressed when working at home.
